About

Art Smog is a photoblog made by Steve O’Bryan of Smack Smog Inc.

Smack Smog is a Social Media Corporation that specializes in developing content for a variety of different types of websites. While websites that talk about themselves and their industries are the most common (often referred to as blogs), I do enjoy coming up with non traditional forms of content.

I’m not so bold as to suggest that photography is a radical form of content but it often plays a second fiddle for the written word. The truth is that art and more specifically photography have a long history with the written word.  Since the beginning of civilization pictures and words have been used to prop each other up. Often they work alone but I think that together they work best.

I started this photo blog for several reasons.

  • I wanted to improve my art and show off what I can do
  • I wanted to provide my clients with an alternative to the run of the mill stock photography that is out there that looks like its been churned out by a puppy mill
  • I want to prove that content, any content can stand on it’s own. Even a photoblog by a nobody photographer can still have a following, albeit a small one.

About My Art

It’s taken me a long time to call my photos art. But lets be honest that’s what they are. Of course some are better then others but it doesn’t matter. They are mine. It’s art.

I seem to do allot of work with visual artists and portraiture. At times we combine our work and come up with some interesting work. Sometimes we don’t.  For me its about taking the time to learn about who and what I’m working with and being in the moment.

I often enjoy taking images in group events. The people and subjects I photograph are real, just as real the moment that I am sharing. I don’t take  formal portraits probably because I’m not a formal person. I love those “in between” moments that slip by in life and we never experience again except maybe in a photograph or on video. It is in these moments that we often see the true essence of a person, even if its for a fleeting moment. I do my best to capture the honest moments where the viewer can experience the moment as much as I do.

I’m available for conversations about projects.
