After years of sleeping on the ground, in Pop Up Trailers etc we decided to trade up and buy an Airstream. I don’t want to hear any lip from anyone out there about my Airstream. We don’t go on cruises, we don’t go to resorts. In fact we don’t do much, except camp. So if I want to sleep on a real bed. Have a real cup of coffee in the morning. Then I will and I really don’t care for your opinion. Oh and the other thing is some real good friends of ours have one as well and well, its just nice to hang with friends!

Microphone Madness – A GT Microphone in the studio where I was shooting Studio Maps.

This is the beginning of another series that I shot about a month ago. Some friends of mine are in a LA Rock Band called Star Maps. I describe their style of music as Love and Rockets, meets Johnny Cash, meets Neil Young, along with a little Rush. Anyway I first shot these guys in a bar in Pasadena and after that they invited me to photograph them in the studio when they were recording a new album. As always the light was funky and  tried not to use a flash. I did a little but most of the shots are with available light only.  I knew these guys were paying out of their own pockets for the studio time so I wanted to be as invisible as possible but to still capture the event.  I hope you enjoy this new series.

I like taking pictures of ordinary things. I see things like these small steps leading up to a loading dock and there is a certain elegance to them.  I think its pretty clear that the loading dock gate is old and battered. Too many truck have run into it when backing up but yet someone took the time to build these steps, put them in place to make life easier for someone else. I’m sure that day after day, delivery after delivery it becomes a pain in the neck to get up and down from the loading dock. However with this one small invention. The humble stairs it makes someone else s, life much easier.

From a photography stand point I love the small lines on the loading gate, I love the natural lines of the steps, I love the criss-cross marks of the diamond plate type surface of the steps. The yellow lines on the stops give a definition of space. The light is my second favorite (the steps are my first).  The cardboard that is littered around the staircase just seems poignant of our times.

Cognitive Behavioral Hypnosis is another from the Old Town Pasadena Photo walk. I like the repetition, the color the symmetry of the rows and the shape of the rocks. It reminds me of how people assemble their thoughts, how they try to relax and then have that golden moment where the Epiphany occurs and the ideas flow.
