They guys from Star Maps playing LaBrie’s Lounge in Glendale, CA tonight. Challenging shoot because I was shooting without using a flash and it was all hand held. Pretty happy with the results.  Shot with my Nikon D300!

Final Shot in the Dad Beats Series. The whole band and nothing but the band, its the Dad Beats! As a photographer it was a fun night of photography. All of these Dad Beat photos were shot with my Nikon D300. You can see the EXIF data below but what I really enjoyed was shooting completely with available light. No flash was used in the creation of this series.

Another image that I have mixed feelings about. If I could afford to print it large, very large I think this would be incredible. With being presented smaller I don’t think it has the pop that it does in a larger format. Is this way of thinking legit? Is it a cop out? Should a good image “sell” no matter what or is it legitimate to say its only good at a certain size? I’m just not sure.

I post it because I like it. If you don’t like it then good. Its not for sale. If you do like then that is okay as well.  I like it. I post it.

A series of images of my good friend and amazing artist Farzad Kohan. This is of course three images arranged together. However each image was the work of a multiple exposures. The layer effect was done in the camera and not photoshop.

The center image was imposed over a page in his sketch book while the other images random objects from the park including the reflection of the sun shining through water bottles.

My good friend Ester loaned me her iTTL Flash, so I could try out some fun lighting attempts. I’m pretty pleased with what I got out of it. My buddy Tony works with Ron Thorn at Thorn Custom Guitars & Inlay and every year they have a big party at the shop. Everyone pulls out Thorn Guitars and its an instant party! A really good time!

The thing is that it was raining like mad! They had four Pop Up Tents setup to play under but it was pretty tight quarters.  The hard part was to dodge huge rain drops and drips while placing the strobes in a way that would not blind the musicians.

I’m pretty pleased overall!

I love this image. Its a tiny little bit of a seasonal change in Los Angeles.  Back East it’s so obvious when the seasons change but not for us in the West. You have to look for it or it may pass you by. This is one of those subtle changes that I don’t always notice but this time I did. I guess Summer is over.
